Charlie Rose’s interview Monday with SMHC Co-Chair and Washington, DC Chancellor Michelle Rhee shows how Rhee is trying to change the culture in that district to one of high performance and accountability, and is going all out to enhance teacher, principal and central office talent in the district.  Rhee articulately argues that if a low-performing district can get talented teachers into all classrooms, and if those teachers set high expectations for all children and work relentlessly to help them attain those goals, then student performance will rise.  Recent test score evidence shows that the District has produced significant student achievement gains in this first year of her tenure.
