NYC DOE spreads the word

DOE Talent Management Strategies Showcased at SMHC Meeting
New York City’s strategies for recruiting, developing, and retaining
teachers and principals were highlighted this week at Strategic
Management of Human Capital’s Task Force meeting in Washington,
D.C. SMHC, launched this spring, is the first-ever comprehensive
campaign to significantly change the way America’s 100 biggest school
districts hire educators, develop talent, and increase teacher
effectiveness. The effort is designed to improve student achievement.
This week’s summit brought together leaders from state and local
districts and labor unions, as well as experts in talent management in
the private and non-profit sectors. Participants discussed how
recruiting talented teachers and principals can advance student
achievement.
Chancellor Klein serves as a member of SMHC’s task force. The Task Force
is chaired by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and includes founding
president of National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Jim
Kelly, co-director of the Consortium of Policy Research professor of
educational leadership and policy analysis at University of Wisconsin
Allan Odden, Chancellor Michelle Rhee (Washington, DC), Superintendent
Carol Johnson (Boston, MA), Superintendent Beverly Hall (Atlanta, GA),
American Federation of Teachers Executive Vice President Antonia
Cortese, National Education Association President-Elect Dennis Van
Roekel, University of Southern California Professor Edward Lawler, New
Teacher Project President Timothy Daly, and other leaders in education.
