Teacher residency programs

One strategy some urban districts are using to solve their teacher quality and shortage problems is to “grow their own” teachers, including having them spend at least a year in a residency program during which intensive assistance is provided to help the new teachers learn and deploy effective instructional practices. A new Aspen Institute paper on this strategy profiles the teacher residency programs in Boston and Chicago.
