The recent NPR report on the improvements in the Chicago Public Schools underscores the importance of recruiting and retaining top teacher and principal talent as a foundation for implementing a variety of curriculum, instructional and school governance changes that together are producing handsome improvements in student learning.  Claudio Sanchez reports that, “The Chicago public schools were once considered the worst urban school system in America. Now, they are perhaps the nation’s biggest laboratory for school reform. The city has turned over large parts of the system to groups of education entrepreneurs.”
