CCSSO Announces Support for Case Studies

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) announced its support for the SMHC Case Studies, applauding SMHC’s comprehensive and rigorous approach to addressing the challenges of recruiting, retaining, and rewarding effective teachers and principals in urban school districts.

States CCSSO Executive Director Gene Wilhoit, “We agree with SMHC’s finding that a practical system for measuring teacher performance and effectiveness is needed.  Once teachers are recruited, a key challenge is developing that talent into effective teaching.  We look forward to working with SMHC to craft model state policies that can work in combination with local and district policies to create a transparent, valid, and reliable system that measures effectiveness in multiple ways.”

Wilhoit is an SMHC Task Force member. Together with SMHC, CCSSO will work to achieve the goal of aligning all steps in the school HR system.

  1. I am very excited about the SMHC task force, and was lucky to attend the recent conference. I am surprised, though, that it does not include representation from the National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality. NCCTQ works closely with the Regional Resource Centers in their efforts to support school improvement and would be an excellent resource, as well as a valuable avenue for communication. Please consider this as your move forward with this important work. Thanks!
