Groundbreaking Data System to Unite NYC Educators

The Achievement Reporting and Innovation System (ARIS), a tool designed to streamline educators’ access to information from Department of Education computer systems, is now available to all New York City classroom teachers. Introduced last year to principals and a small number of teachers, ARIS will help teachers to raise student achievement by expanding their access to critical information about their students – including enrollment history, diagnostic assessment information, credits accumulated towards graduation, test scores, special education status and family contact information. Teachers can use ARIS to diagnose their students’ learning needs and measure their success in meeting those needs. ARIS also features social networking tools that allow teachers to share class plans, curricula, interventions, and additional resources. Educators can identify educators across the City who teach similar subjects or are experiencing similar challenges, and create online communities to further facilitate the sharing of ideas and transfer of information.

IBM is the New York City Department of Education’s primary contractor on ARIS.  Wireless Generation is a key subcontractor, leading development and training on the ARIS features and functionality rolling out this school year. Josh Reibel, president of Wireless Generation, is also an SMHC Task Force member.
