SMHC District Reform Network Kicks Off Today
Friends and Colleagues:
We begin our two day conference in Chicago, today, with the SMHC District Reform Network. We have teams from 22 districts attending, including Albuquerque, Atlanta, Austin (TX), Shreveport, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, East Baton Rouge, Fort Worth, Fresno, Jefferson County (Louisville), Lincoln, Minneapolis, New York City, Omaha, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Prince George’s County, Rochester, and San Francisco. This is an impressive list of districts from across the country and we are excited about working with them — as well as others — moving forward.
During the conference we will be focusing on SMHC issues generally, and drilling down to such specific topics as Conducting an HR Alignment Analysis, Conducting Strategic Human Capital Audits and Developing Strategic Staffing Strategies, Developing Systems to Measure Teaching Performance, Identifying the Competencies Principals Need as Site Human Capital Managers, and Assessing the Policies and Practices Around HR Transaction Processes.
We also are working on forming the group of states that will become part of a State SMHC Reform Network.
During the conference, we will emphasize how SMHC initiatives are integral to responding positively to the funds for education in the stimulus program. We will stress that many talent and human capital initiatives have one-time front-end costs, all of which could be funded with stimulus funds, as well as be part of successful proposals for the second portion of the district stimulus funds.
In short, we are moving forward with creating these two action networks and enthusiastic about how our agenda aligns so closely with that of the new administration, particularly in the effective teacher and teacher quality areas.
